The Farmer's War: Exposition of the Book of Joel
Exposition of the Book of Joel, 2023.
This short book describes a coming invasion of northern armies which decimate the land, like a plague of locusts. They constitute a reversal of various themes: the Land as Eden is turned into non-Eden (2:3) and various themes of the Exodus are turned back on Israel (instead of locusts on Egypt, "locusts" now fall on Israel, for instance). Throughout, agricultural themes are highlighted, showing the destruction of farmland, but culminating in the Divine Farmer going to war for His repentant People (chapter 3).
