Mark 12:38 In His teaching, He was saying, “Watch carefully the actions of the Lawyers of Torah who enjoy prestigious dress and salutations in public, 39 as well as the seats of honor at banquets. 40 Yet they eat up widow’s property while making a show of pretentious prayers. These will receive excessive judgment.” 41 Then He took His seat as a rabbi beside the treasury and began observing how the crowds were throwing coins into the treasury; and many rich folks were throwing in many coins. 42 Then a poor widow came and dropped in two mites (copper coins) worth very little. So He summoned His disciples to Him and said to them, “Truly, I say to you, this poor widow has given more than all those before throwing in their offerings in this treasury. 44 For they gave from their abundance, but she gave out of poverty throwing in everything she had to live on.” (G. Strawbridge trans.)
