[After teaching all day from the boat moored to the shore] Then He said to them when evening came, “Let us cross to the other side.” 36 So leaving the crowd, they took Him with them in the boat without going ashore. 37 Then a great storm of wind arose and the waves were breaking into the boat, so much that the boat was being filled with water. 38 Yet He was sleeping on a pillow in the back of the boat. They woke Him and said, “Rabbi, don’t you care that we are perishing?” 39 He arose, rebuked the wind and said to the sea, “Hush, be still!” And the wind stopped and there was great calm. 40 Then He said to them, “Why are you so cowardly? Do you still have no faith? 41They were fearful and said to each other, “Who really is this person that even the wind and the sea obey Him?” (G. Strawbridge trans.)
Jesus, Savior, pilot me over life’s tempestuous sea;
Unknown waves before me roll, Hiding rock and treacherous shoal.
Chart and compass come from Thee; Jesus, Savior, pilot me.
As a mother stills her child, Thou canst hush the ocean wild;
Boisterous waves obey Thy will, When Thou sayest to them, Be still!
Wondrous Sovereign of the sea, Jesus, Savior, pilot me.
