This lecture addresses the impact of the Bible upon slavery, emancipation, and the pursuit of justice for African Americans and women, especially African American Christian women who have been leaders and advocates for the rights and well-being of their people.

Cheryl J. Sanders is senior pastor of the Third Street Church of God in Washington, DC and professor of Christian ethics at the Howard University School of Divinity. She has published more than 100 works including several books. She is married to Dr. Alan Carswell, and they are parents of two adult children, Allison and Garrett.
