Following Christ Without Fear (Matthew 10:24-33)
Matthew 10:16-33 follows a pattern of Jesus laying out things for the Disciples to expect as they are sent out (A-C below). In the passage today (Intermission through C'), Jesus explains that this will happen to them because they are part of His "house", His "kingdom", which is actively plundering the "house" and "kingdom" of Beelzebul, the Prince of Demons, Satan himself. But unlike some leaders who tell you what to expect and then let you have it, Jesus tells them what to expect AND gives them reasons not to fear it! The God who watches the sparrows, and knows the number of hairs on our head, can certainly keep track of us.
A. Expect to bear witness to all (16-20)
B. Expect persecution and even death (21-22)
C. Expect to be outcasts in each town (23)
[Intermission: They did it to me, they’ll definitely do it to you (24-25)]
A’. Have no fear of publicly bearing witness (26-27)
B’. Have no fear of persecution and death (28-30)
C'. Have no fear of being outcasts, you’re not alone (31-33)
