Paul opens his letter by answering the central question "Who is this Jesus?" A distinction is drawn between his identity and his earthly ministry. Prior to his life on earth, He is the Maker, the Glory of God, and the Upholder. As a consequence of his earthly ministry, He also assumes the titles of Prophet, Priest, and King.
