James K. Hoffmeier

James K. Hoffmeier is Emeritus Professor of Old Testament and Near Eastern Archaeology at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School. Born and raised in Egypt, he developed an early passion for biblical archaeology. He earned his MA and PhD in Ancient Near Eastern Religions from the University of Toronto. Hoffmeier taught at Wheaton College (1980–1999) and Trinity (1999–2019) and directed the North Sinai Archaeological Project. A distinguished field archaeologist, he has conducted excavations in Egypt and Sudan and published extensively on the historical and archaeological background of the Bible. He served as the plenary speaker at the 2026 ETS Annual Meeting of the Eastern Region.
