Verses 1-5: Lost Zacchaeus Seeking

Verses 6-10: Jesus Seeking the Lost

Sermon Exhortation:

When Jesus declared that TODAY salvation has come to the house of Zacchaeus, He gave a very specific reason: salvation came to that house since he also is a son of Abraham.

Now we might protest and say, “Wait a minute, Zacchaeus was a Jew! He was already a son of Abraham!”

The Scriptures teach us that being a son or daughter of Abraham is about more than bloodline, however. Zacchaeus was pronounced to be a son of Abraham that day, because Jesus had sought him, and found him, and Zacchaeus believed, and acted in faith to right the wrongs he had committed in his tax collecting.

St. Paul writes in Galatians 3, “Know then that it is those of faith who are the sons of Abraham. . . . [and again] “if you are Christ’s, then you are Abraham’s offspring, heirs according to promise.” [vss 7, 29]

Jesus stayed at Zacchaeus’s house that day, and no doubt they dined together. But more importantly, SALVATION came to his house that day, in the person of Jesus Christ.

By faith, you are also sons and daughters of Abraham, which means that salvation is yours. So come, and dine with your Salvation: come and dine with Jesus Christ.
