Bread for the Body and Soul (John 6:22-35)

Speaker: Rev. Jon Herr
Date: 8/5/2018
Type: Sunday Sermon
Topic: Bread
Price: FREE

Verses 25-34 may be arranged in a chiasm, between the first and fourth questions if the "crowd" (v 22):

A. Crowd: seeking “Rabbi” for perishing bread (v 25)

B. Jesus: false work = perishing bread; true work = eternal bread (v 26-27)

C. Crowd: How do we do the works of God? (v 28)

D. Jesus: The work of God = believe in Christ (v 29)

C’. Crowd: How do we know that you’re from God? (v 30-31)

B’. Jesus: Moses gave perishing bread; God gives life-giving bread (v 32-33)

A’. Crowd: Seeking “Lord” (Κuριε) for eternal bread (v 34)

Let us learn to easily say, “Lord, give us this bread…always.”

May this prayer flow easily and often from our tongues, as we understand more and more that Jesus Christ meets all of our needs. We must love and serve and obey Him—but most importantly believe Him.

For He is the Bread of Life, who meets our life’s every hunger, and quenches our every thirst.
