Solomon plays good cop to the bad cop played by "life under the sun". All that Solomon has pursued, wisdom, pleasure, and hard work, all has proven to be nothing but vapor and shepherding the wind. But this will not lead to despair. For as Solomon concludes, man can find true good and lasting meaning, but only if he refuses to make idols of those pursuits. Gratitude to God alone can give solidity to life.
