Genesis 9:6 prohibited shedding human blood for a specific reason: “Whoever sheds the blood of man, by man shall his blood be shed; for in the image of God has God made man.” David was prohibited from building the temple because he had shed much blood (1 Chronicles 22:8). Shedding “innocent blood” was an even greater crime (Manasseh in 2 Kings 21:16; 24:4). Jesus taught “everyone who is angry with his brother will be subject to judgment” (Matt. 5:21). It is important to see that this leads to the next point regarding personal reconciliation: “Therefore, if you are offering your gift at the altar and there remember that your brother has something against you, leave your gift there in front of the altar. First go and be reconciled to your brother; then come and offer your gift.” (Matt. 5:23-24)
