Background of Luke's Gospel

Perhaps Luke was a freed slave of Theophilos slave, who was Titus Flavius Sabinus.

GS: We observe differences so that someone might not come along later and seize upon unbelief regarding these simple differences which ultimately relate to 4 different gospel authors, who draw upon, compliment, accent, contrast, enhance, complete and fulfill one another.
 

Left out by Luke:

  • kingdom of heaven.
  • shall inherit the earth.
  • hunger and thirst for righteousness,
  • pure in heart,
  • peacemakers,
  • A city set on a hill cannot be hidden.
  • Matthew 5:19–20  19 Therefore whoever relaxes one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do the same will be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever does them and teaches them will be called great in the kingdom of heaven. 20 For I tell you, unless your righteousness exceeds that of the scribes and Pharisees, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.
  • ‘You fool!’ liable to the council;  (sanhedrin)
  • leave your gift there before the altar and go.
  • ‘You shall not swear falsely, but rshall perform to the Lord what you have sworn.’
  • An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.’
  • Do not even the Gentiles do the same (in the SOM)
  • Beware of rpracticing your righteousness before other people
  • fasting and almsgiving

The purpose of Luke was so that “you may know the exact truth about the things you have been taught” (1:4). Here is the claim of certainty or veracity (the exact truth or know for certain). CERTAINTY OF LUKE: 25% of the NT is Lukan

Luke was from Antioch. He was the beloved physician who was there at the end of Paul’s life in the Mamertime Prison in Rome. Most of all he was the excellent theologian of the first century church.
